In less than 36 hours, I will be in the Outer Banks. I will be a week away from most of my stress and I cannot wait. One of my favorite ladies will be there for most of the trip and that’ll be super rad. I’ve been coming down to the Outer Banks almost every year since I was in fourth grade. It’s a place with good, bad, and hilarious memories and I can’t wait to add to the pile of good ones.

2008

Love is more one-sided than you like and sometimes you’ll look like a fool pursuing it, and that’s okay. 2008 was the year I fell in love over and over again like some kind of an addict. It ended badly and I learned from it. I didn’t stop loving; I stopped being gullible for cheap words and easy talk.

2009

Everyone can lose. If you feel invincible because of money or power, you’re going to fall. Sometimes, people will be out to get you and the people that should be in your corner will abandon you when you need them most; that’s okay. You will learn from it and even though you’ll dwell on the bad (for far too long in retrospect), you’ll move on and be better for it.

2010

Your perfect educational fit isn’t necessarily what you want it to be. I thought I could handle sort of large classes in auditoriums and no personal touch. What I needed was a hands on faculty that learned my name in a week and was actively involved in my education.

2011

Friends are expendable and they’ll abandon you when you wish they were there. I can’t tell you how many times people walked out of my life. I’ve lost count. I can tell you that at the time I wish that they had stayed. But I’m stronger without them and I don’t miss them anymore. I wish I had someone to call my “best friend,” but I don’t need one and I certainly don’t miss her.

2012

Your professional and educational life don’t mean much at all. In fact, having the best connections in the world don’t mean much. It’s all a crap shoot and all you can do is put your best foot forward, smile, and hope for the best. You will have doors slammed in front of you (hopefully in a figurative fashion) and narrowly miss obtaining your “dream” job. You will have many dream jobs, the near misses will make you stronger and more confident if you handle it well.
